START HERE: THE ORIGINS OF POPPY PRESS STUDIO

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Hello and welcome to Poppy Press Studio! My name is Mary Olgeirsson and I first fell in love with letterpress printing during a visit at a local print shop back in 2019.

I couldn’t stop daydreaming about it during my days as a graphic designer. After lots of searching, I finally located my dream press in 2021 (thanks Small Works!), borrowed a truck (thanks Martin!) and hauled it home.

The learning curve was definitely steep, but years of graphic design experience, a few printmaking classes in college, and a hands-on letterpress workshop eased my transition into the craft.

WHY THE NAME POPPY PRESS?

I chose Poppy Press as my studio name because, as an introvert, being in nature makes me happiest.

I adore flowers of all kinds (I even spent a few years working at a garden center to recover from burnout after my corporate design career) but I feel particularly drawn to wild and ephemeral poppies.

WHO DO WE WORK WITH? WHAT SERVICES DO WE OFFER?

I offer in-house letterpress, digital printing and design services, with the ability to source die-cutting, foil printing, and digital white ink from trusted partners.

I love working with fellow designers and paper fiends across the state of Michigan and beyond: I've printed for wine makers in New York, designed wedding invitations for a couple in San Francisco, collaborated on greeting cards with a German floral illustrator, and shipped products all the way to Australia!

So whether you’re a stationer, designer, calligrapher or just another letterpress junkie like me and you're looking for a printer who can offer a unique touch, look no further. I'd be so happy to work with you!

GOING FORWARD

With this blog, I’m so excited to share behind-the-scenes from the printing process, tips for producing your own wedding stationery, and inspiration from my favorite projects.

Thank you for being here and supporting my dream of making beautiful things!

Here’s to crafting meaningful connections, one print at a time.

xo,

Mary
